💡 How the Fuel Relief Package Works?

Due to the current skyrocketing petrol prices because of the war situation in the Middle East, the Government has announced a temporary fuel price relief package for families. Based on this package, almost 150,000 families in NZ will receive an extra $50 a week for up to a year to ease the pain at the fuel station.

  • Targeted Relief: The payment is delivered as a boost to the in-work tax credit (part of Working for Families). It is specifically for low- to middle-income parents who are working.
  • Exclusions: Those who are receiving other benefits, superannuitants, and those without children are not eligible for the fuel crisis relief package.
  • Duration: This temporary package is for up to one year, or until the price of 91 octane petrol drops below $3 a litre for 4 consecutive weeks.
  • Payout Dates: Eligible households will start seeing the benefit from April 7 (if paid weekly) or April 14 (if paid fortnightly).

📌 Note: This tool provides an estimate based on the announced thresholds (approx. $89,000 for 1 child, $112,000 for 2, and $135,000 for 3). Exact abatement rates near the threshold may vary.
