General Information
The information provided by NZ PAYE Calculator — including our website at payecalculatornz.nz, our iOS app "PAYE Calculator NZ" (Apple App Store), and our Android app "PAYE Calculator NZ" (Google Play Store) — collectively referred to as "our Services", is for general informational purposes only.
Not Financial or Tax Advice
The calculations, figures, and information provided by our Services do not constitute financial advice, tax advice, accounting advice, or legal advice. Our calculator is designed as an indicative tool to help New Zealand employees estimate their take-home pay and understand how PAYE, ACC levies, KiwiSaver contributions, student loan repayments, and other deductions may affect their income.
You should not make any financial decisions based solely on the output of this calculator. For personalised advice on your specific tax situation, we strongly recommend consulting:
- Inland Revenue (IRD) — the official New Zealand tax authority
- A qualified and registered tax advisor or chartered accountant
- A licensed financial adviser for investment or KiwiSaver-related decisions
- Your employer's payroll department for payslip-specific queries
Accuracy of Calculations
While we make every effort to ensure the accuracy and reliability of our calculations, all information on our Services is provided in good faith on an "as is" basis. We make no representation or warranty of any kind, express or implied, regarding the accuracy, adequacy, validity, reliability, availability, or completeness of any calculation or information provided.
Calculations may not account for every individual circumstance, including but not limited to:
- Tailored or special tax codes (e.g. customised PAYE rates issued by IRD)
- Tax credits beyond the Independent Earner Tax Credit (IETC)
- Working for Families tax credits or FamilyBoost entitlements
- Fringe benefit tax (FBT) on employer-provided benefits
- Schedular payments for contractors
- Income from self-employment, rental properties, trusts, or overseas sources
- Redundancy or lump sum payments with different tax treatment
- Mid-year changes to salary, tax code, or deduction rates
Tax Year & Rate Changes
New Zealand tax rates, thresholds, and levy amounts are set by Parliament and may change through the annual Budget process or legislation. Our calculator supports multiple tax years and we update the rates as promptly as possible after official announcements. However, there may be a delay between when changes take effect and when they are reflected in our calculator.
Always verify that you are using the correct tax year for your calculation and cross-reference critical figures with the official IRD website at ird.govt.nz.
Secondary Tax Calculations
Our secondary tax calculator provides an estimate of PAYE deductions on secondary employment income based on the flat-rate secondary tax codes (SB, S, SH, ST, SA) published by IRD. The calculator determines the applicable code based on your stated total combined income from all sources.
Please be aware that:
- The secondary tax code you use must reflect your total income from all sources — not just the income from your second job
- Using the wrong secondary tax code may result in over-payment or under-payment of tax during the year, which IRD will reconcile in your end-of-year assessment
- If your income changes during the year, you may need to update your tax code with your employer by submitting a new IR330 form
- Our calculator shows the PAYE deduction your secondary employer will apply — the actual tax owed is determined by IRD at year-end based on your total income
KiwiSaver & Student Loan
KiwiSaver contribution rates and employer contribution rates shown in our calculator are based on the standard rates published by IRD. We do not account for employer-specific KiwiSaver schemes, voluntary additional contributions, contribution holidays, or the Government's annual KiwiSaver member tax credit.
Student loan repayment calculations are based on the standard 12% repayment rate on income above the annual repayment threshold. Our calculator does not account for voluntary additional repayments, overseas-based borrower obligations, or end-of-year adjustments for self-employed income.
ACC Earner's Levy
The ACC earner's levy rate and maximum liable earnings threshold used in our calculator are based on figures published by Inland Revenue and the Accident Compensation Corporation. Each employer deducts the ACC earner's levy independently from the income they pay you.
If you have multiple jobs and your combined income exceeds the maximum liable earnings threshold, you may overpay ACC levies during the year. ACC will perform a Multiple Employer Adjustment after the end of the tax year and refund any excess levy paid. Our calculator shows the ACC deduction as it will appear on your payslip from each employer — it does not pre-calculate the year-end adjustment.
Mobile Applications
Our iOS and Android mobile applications ("PAYE Calculator NZ") perform all calculations locally on your device. The same disclaimers that apply to the website apply equally to the mobile apps. The apps may display advertisements served by Google AdMob, which is subject to Google's own terms and privacy policy.
Both apps offer an optional one-time in-app purchase to remove advertisements. This purchase is processed by Apple (iOS) or Google (Android) and we do not have access to your payment details.
